Shift Differentials are enacted by the Division of
Classification and Compensation (in the Department of Civil Service) to
address problems with recruitment and retention in specific title.

Shift Differentials Require the Approval of the Division
of Budget

Shift Differentials are for Specific Titles in Specific
Locations. They are separate from, and in addition to,
Inconvenience
Pay
-
Inconvenience Pay is additional compensation paid to
any employee who is required to work 4 or more hours between
6pm and 6am;
-
Shift Differentials are enacted where it has been
determined that additional compensation is required to recruit and
retain competent personnel to work other than normal day shifts in
particular occupations and areas of the State.

Shift Differentials are paid bi-weekly and are reported as
compensable income for retirement. They are not
considered "base pay" for promotion or any other purpose.

Shift Differentials are pro-rated based on Part-Time or
VRWS percentage
