The State of New York/ PEF Statewide Health and Safety Committee [Article 18] has approved funding to provide support for up to 100 eligible management and labor representatives to attend the Safe Patient Handling Conference. The conference is being sponsored by NYS Department of Labor, The New York State Zero Lift Task Force and Upstate Medical University and will be held in Syracuse, New York on October 4 - 5, 2010. The aim of this conference is to increase labor and management knowledge and collaboration in preventing of back injuries, patient injury and related workers’ compensation costs due to patient lifting.

Hotel Accommodations
The Safe Patient Handling Conference 2010 will take place at the Holiday Inn, Syracuse/Liverpool, New York. The Holiday Inn Liverpool is located directly off Exit 37 of Interstate 90. It is a full-service hotel minutes from Syracuse.
Safe Patient Handling Conference 2010 Block Deadline: September 3, 2010
The Department of Labor has reserved a limited room block for the 2010 Safe Patient Handling Conference attendees. This gives conference attendees the option to stay at the conference hotel at the discounted rate of $97.00 per night (subject to occupancy tax unless tax exempt). (Attendees must show an updated NYS Tax Exempt form when they check in for the hotel to remove the tax.) The occupancy tax is 13%, but is subject to change. To reserve on a first-come, first-served basis, access the hotel by the link below or contact the Holiday Inn reservation line at (315) 457-1122 and ask for the Department of Labor, Safe Patient Handling Conference Room Block.
Transportation & Parking
The Holiday Inn will offer complimentary parking for conference attendees. The hotel also has a complimentary shuttle to the Carousel Mall, Regional Transportation Center and the Hancock International Airport, as well as other destinations within a 3-mile radius.
Payment
The Department of Labor is not responsible for making hotel/room reservations. Attendees must make reservations directly with the Holiday Inn.
