Quackwatch is an independently operated web site containing useful information about health fraud and quackery. There are hundreds of original articles in categories such as "Questionable Products, Services and Theories," "Non-recommended Sources of Health Advice," "Consumer Strategy: Tips for Provider Selection," plus a lengthy selection of links to related sites. It has sister sites including Dental Watch, Chirobase (about fraudulent practices among chiropractors) and Nutriwatch (a guide to "sensible nutrition"). Selected articles are available in Spanish, French, German and Portuguese. There are unusual--and entertaining-- articles in a section called Health- and Safety-Related Urban Legends, Rumors, and Hoaxes. A free weekly e-mail newsletter, Consumer Health Watch, is available through Quackwatch. It summarizes scientific reports, legislative developments, enforcement actions; news reports, Web site evaluations, recommended and non-recommended books, research tips, and other information relevant to consumer protection and consumer decision-making. It also calls attention to new articles on Quackwatch and its related web sites. Quackwatch is a nonprofit corporation that combats health-related frauds, myths, fads, and fallacies. Its primary focus is on quackery-related information that is difficult or impossible to get elsewhere. It contains no advertising and is free of corporate sponsorship. |
